This simple triangular shawl from Stephen West is a perfect travel project. It's constructed of simple rows of knits and purls, and it's easy to memorize once you get going.

You will need:

654 yards DK weight yarn
US 8 circular needle in 32" length

You could choose a yarn in any weight or fiber, and use a needle that's slightly larger than normally used for that yarn. This gives a looser gauge, which creates a lovely drape.
